What is happening in class…. Reading - We will read a book on Ida. B Wells to continue our black history month unit. Students will begin a non-fiction unit focusing on context clues, text features, and words in the paragraph to help students understand meaning of the entire non-fiction text. We will practice using the text Camouflaged Creatures. Students will work on word work and expand their vocabulary during centers. Math- Students will continue Unit 5 focusing on solving number stories and comparing solutions and explanations with their peers to revise their work, and to decompose factors to solve multiplication facts. Students will practice skills in math games during centers. Students will take the Unit 5 test on Thursday after we review on Wednesday. We will review new math vocabulary terms to continue building their academic vocabulary. Students will take the Unit 5 test Thursday this week. Writing - Last week we practiced homophones, this week we will focus on prefixes including -in, -pre, -mis, -non. Students will complete word work skills practice during centers and free write about special memories retelling details from beginning, middle, to end. Social Studies - We will continue our black history month unit by reading texts each day learning about different influential people in history. This week we will read about Ida B. Wells. Science - Students will continue learning about biomes, animal adaptations and survival in different climates, discussing animal needs like food water, temperature, habitat, and types of predators matching it to the climate that best suits the animal for survival. Homework: Math - 5.10 homelink, 5.11 homelink, Unit 5 math review packet Reading - Reading Log each night
