Notes for Families
What is happening in class…. Reading - We will continue reading Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key, reviewing the sequence of events. Students will describe how Joey and other characters in the story contribute to the sequence of events in the story. They will describe what happened in the beginning and middle of the novel up through chapter 11. Math- Students will solve array problems, play array bingo, solve division number stories and discuss remainders, and explore odd and even number patterns and play Division Arrays. We will review new math vocabulary terms and continue building their academic vocabulary. Students will take the math test next week Tuesday and will get a review pack for homework Monday night. Writing - Students will begin writing their” Wacky Shoes” story from the prompt written about a kid with wacky shoes that take her places. Students will continue working on adding sentence starters and transition words throughout journal entries as they write their own wacky shoe story. Social Studies - We will continue learning about Chicago’s history by creating and using a chronological sequence of events and locating major landforms and bodies of water on a map of Illinois. This week we will look at a map of Chicago and learn about a compass, key features on the map, map keys, and well known areas on the map, like where they live! Science - We will revise their past scientific observations to review what 10 out of 10 scientific observations look like and the quality of descriptions written in student’s responses.
