Notes for Families
What is happening in class…. Reading - We will continue our Poetry Unit. We will read Jackrabbits, Green Onions, and Witches Stew, If It Rains Pancakes, Lantern Poem, and Bird’s Nest. Students will determine the theme of a nonsense poem, summarize it’s key details/ideas, use structural elements (such as shape) to understand meaning, and determine the theme of any poem. Students will begin writing a poem about things that make them happy. We will focus on word work -ing endings to VC words and VCC words. Students will work year-long spiral curriculum word work center practice and expand their vocabulary. Math- We will continue Unit 7. Students will focus on partitioning fraction strips and using them to name and compare fractions, represent fractions on a number line, identify fractions greater than, less than, and equal to one another, and comparing fractions with visual models. Students will practice previous skills in math games during centers. We will review new math vocabulary terms to continue building their academic vocabulary. Writing - Students will begin writing a poem about things that make them happy. Center word work practice -ing and -ed endings. Social Studies - We will review our Chicago Fire play roles and begin to practice reading parts from the script in class. We will also continue Just Add Water investigation 9. Science - Students will continue the Forces in Motion unit this week for our last quarter of the school year!
