Notes for Families
What is happening in class…. Reading - We will continue reading Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key, focusing on cause and effect. Students will describe how and why events occur. We will review character traits as we are introduced to new characters and as character’s develop. Math- Students will review Unit 1 skills and take the Unit 1 assessment Tuesday. Students will identify turn-around facts in addition and multiplication, and review extensions of addition and subtraction. We will review math vocabulary terms to continue building their academic vocabulary. Writing - Every third grader will be given a narrative rubric which states how their final draft will be graded. Students revise their writing, review teacher revisions, and add sentence starters and transition words. Students focus on capitalization and use of temporal words and phrases to signal event order. Students will turn in a second rough draft of their narrative writing. Social Studies - We will continue building our classroom community and continue learning about Chicago’s history by creating and using a chronological sequence of events and locating major landforms and bodies of water on a map of Illinois. Science - We will learn about scientific observations, create their own in their science notebooks using sensory words we create and brainstorm together.
