Notes for Families:
What is happening in class…. Reading - Students will read/watch poems by Amanda Gorman, the inauguration poem. Students will identify how stanzas and rhymes can be used to help understand the poem's meaning, identify themes discussing author’s uses, identify rhythm and repetition, and lastly identify nonliteral language and meanings. Students will write a narrative writing this week. Students will work year-long spiral curriculum word work with shades of meaning using different vocabulary words during center practice and expand their vocabulary. Math- Students will continue Unit 8 and will play Factor Bingo and discuss how to find products for a given factor, model equal-sharing situations with $10 and $1 bills, compare fractions, generate equivalent fractions, and explore the areas of rectangles, and explore the shared attributes of prisms. Students will take the Unit 8 test next week Tuesday. Students will practice previous skills in math games during centers. We will review new math vocabulary terms to continue building their academic vocabulary. Writing - Students will write their last narrative writing . Center word work practice -ed endings and context clues with different vocabulary words. Social Studies - We will review our Chicago Fire play roles and begin to practice reading parts from the script in class. We will begin Just Add Water investigation 12. Science - Students will continue the Forces in Motion unit this week. We will focus on magnetic forces and watch experiments with these forces in action. *Homework chart for the week: [everything due Friday morning IN folders] Monday - No Homework (Kids Choice Day!)
