Notes for Families
What is happening in class…. Reading - We will finish our Women’s history month unit finishing the chapter book Malala: My Story of Standing Up for Girls Rights and Little Leaders book series on different women the rest of the week. Students will focus on character development, character traits, and character’s response to challenges throughout the story. Students will work on word work and expand their vocabulary. Math- Students will finish Unit 6, focusing on using order of operations to solve multistep problems, solving two-step number stories and representing with equations, and reviewing common core math standards 3.OA.3, 3.OA.4, 3.OA.5, 3.OA.7, 3.OA.8, 3.NBT.2 before the Unit 6 test on Friday. Students will practice skills in math games during centers. We will review new math vocabulary terms to continue building their academic vocabulary. Writing - Students will continue their second opinion writing project. Students will continue drafting their opinion writing on making a claim about the merit of a solution to a problem caused when an environment changes and the types of animals living there may change. Students will finish their first draft this week. (Word Work= -ea, -ee, -ou, -ow and synonyms) Social Studies - We will finish our Women’s History Month unit by reading texts each day learning about different influential people in history. Students turned in their ‘take-home project’ for Women’s History Month and began presenting. We will review Map Skills this week through different forms of maps; topography, physical, road map, etc. Science - Students will continue learning about biomes, animal adaptations and survival in different climates, discussing animal needs like food water, temperature, habitat, and types of predators matching it to the climate that best suits the animal for survival. This is tied in with our opinion writing unit as students write about climate change affecting animal survival in different climates.
