Notes for Families
What is happening in class…. Reading - We will continue reading The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane and continue to discuss main idea(s) in chapter 7, 8, and 9 this week. Students will identify the overall main idea from each chapter going forward in our read aloud book. Students will continue working on word work and expanding their vocabulary during centers. Math- Students will review multiplication squares and begin a fact strategy journal for multiplication facts, learn about the turn-around rule for multiplication and introduce the multiplication fact table, develop ‘adding-a-group’ and ‘subtracting-a-group’ strategy to help solve unknown multiplication facts. We will review new math vocabulary terms and continue building their academic vocabulary. Writing - Students will publish their opinion writing! Social Studies - We will continue learning about Chicago’s history by adding to their map of Illinois. We will begin investigation #4 discussing DuSable’s impact on the city of Chicago and how the indigenous people were impacted and negatively affected by settlers like DuSable. Students will continue adding to these maps throughout the year. Science - Students will continue the weather and climate unit. We will build new vocabulary related to weather and climate tools and observe different tools in groups discussing purpose and how it’s used. Students will begin discussing climate, what it is and eventually compare and contrast climate and weather in a venn diagram before winter break. *Homework chart for the week: [everything due Friday morning IN folders] Monday: 3.9 Homelink & Reading Log Tuesday: 3.10 Homelink & Reading Log Wednesday: 3.11 Homelink & Reading Log Thursday: 3.12 Homelink & Reading Log Friday: No math homework, reading log due Friday Morning
